Status=Employed
Despite layoffs at my company, I currently still have a job which I am very thankful for. It's been a difficult time seeing co-workers go, but my team is most not impacted at this time. It's a rough economy, so I'm well aware that job security isn't a given for most of us at the moment.
I couldn't possibly be more thankful for my boss and his boss who have been supportive and tolerant as I've gone through such a tough time medically, and I'm looking forward to making them very glad they kept me around during 2009. I have always loved the software I work on and the company and I'm pretty unreasonably loyal. As long as they want me here and are good to me, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.
It was very flattering that an old friend contacted me yesterday, kind of hoping I'd been laid off and offered me a possible consulting gig. It made me feel cared for, but I wanted to set the record straight that I have a job and am not looking for another one at this time. At some point in the future, the idea of consulting sounds exciting and like it might be a good fit for me, but not right now.
I hope that some of the good people who have been laid off recently find work soon. It's a great time to be hiring right now because there are so many talented people looking for a job. I have some friends, an experienced Whitebox tester (Ex-Microsoft) and a very experienced PM friend (Ex-Microsoft and Ex-Adobe with tons of agile projects under her belt) that are looking right now in the Greater Puget Sound area.
